Ghost Cookies: Easy & Fun Halloween Recipe for Kids

Halloween Treats: Easy Ghost Cookies for a Spooky Celebration

Halloween has quietly made its way into our kitchens without us even noticing. Every year, children eagerly anticipate their costumes, pumpkins, and of course, homemade candy. This year, why not try making these spooky ghost cookies? They are a simple and fun way to spend quality time with the kids. The dough can be a homemade shortcrust pastry base, which can be prepared in just a few minutes, or you can use pre-cooked dough to save time. The dough is easy to cut and decorate with a little powdered sugar, giving it that "scary" touch. For the eyes and mouth, all you need is a small amount of raspberry jam. This recipe uses just three ingredients, making it simple and fun—perfect for preparing at home, sharing with the family, and adding a sweet touch to the spookiest night of the year.

Ingredients

  • 1 shortcrust pastry roll
  • 4 tablespoons of raspberry jam
  • 50 g powdered sugar (approximately)

Materials

  • Heart-shaped pastry cutter (optional)
  • Smooth pastry nozzle or a straw
  • Pastry bag (optional)
  • Strainer (optional)

Preparation

Step 1:

Roll out the dough between two sheets of baking paper until it is thin. Cut out hearts using a pastry cutter. If you want, you can chill the cutter in the freezer for a few seconds to make it easier to use. Place the pieces on a lined tray.

Step 2:

Chill the dough for 10 minutes in the freezer. After chilling, remove any excess and cut each heart in half to form the shape of a ghost.

Step 3:

Use a nozzle or a straw to create the eyes and mouth on half of the pieces. The narrow part of the nozzle or straw can be used for the eyes, while the wider part can be used for the mouth. Tilt the bottom end slightly to create the ghost's "tail."

Step 4:

Bake the cookies at 350°F (180°C), using both the top and bottom heat settings, for about 10 minutes. If you want them to maintain their shape, cover them with baking paper and place another tray on top as a weight.

Step 5:

Let the cookies cool on a wire rack. Once cooled, fill the base of each cookie with a small amount of jam and sprinkle the tops with powdered sugar using a sieve to ensure an even distribution.

Step 6:

Put the pieces together like a sandwich: place one piece sprinkled with sugar on top of another with jam in between, and gently press them together.

Step 7:

Now you can enjoy these fun and easy ghost cookies, perfect for making with the family and adding a sweet touch to Halloween night. Whether you're celebrating with kids or just looking for a fun baking project, these cookies are sure to bring a smile to everyone’s face.
