Aldi Shoppers Confused by Sudden Disappearance of Budget Salmon Staple
Aldi Australia shoppers have been left puzzled after a popular budget pantry item, Ocean Rise Premium Red Salmon, disappeared from shelves without any prior notice or explanation. The product, which was sold for just $1.50 per can, is now listed as "currently not available" on the store’s website.
This sudden absence has sparked widespread concern among customers. One shopper asked in an online forum: “Where has the canned red salmon gone?” They added, “The plain salmon with nothing added except salt? All my local stores no longer have it.” The issue quickly became a topic of discussion on social media and forums, with many expressing frustration over the missing item.
Another customer provided a possible clue that the product may be permanently discontinued. They mentioned that their local store had rearranged the shelf to remove the space where the salmon used to be, suggesting it might not return soon. “The only canned salmon left is the flavoured stuff and I'm just not interested,” they said.
Indeed, the online store still lists several flavoured varieties of Ocean Rise Salmon, all priced at $1.49 per 95g can. These include Sweet Chilli Salmon, Smoked Flavoured Salmon, Tomato Salsa Salmon, Aioli and Cracked Pepper Salmon, Soy Sauce Ginger & Garlic Salmon, and Teriyaki & Garlic Salmon.
The original poster on Reddit initially hoped the disappearance was only a local stock issue, but later discovered that the problem was widespread. “So frustrating,” they wrote. “A good friend of mine just got me onto it and it's so good for you! Great price too.”

While some shoppers lament the presumed discontinuation of the salmon, others are celebrating the return of another beloved item: Choceur Delightful Chocolate Waves. This chocolate range, part of Aldi’s Christmas offering, has reappeared for 2025. It comes in four flavors—milk chocolate, caramel, hazelnut, and mint—at a price of $4.99 for a 125g pack.
These thin and crisp milk chocolate slices are known for their light crunchy texture, making them a perfect little indulgence. Chocolate fans affectionately call them “Pringles chocolate” due to their thin, curved shape resembling the famous baked crisps.
An Aldi Australia spokesperson confirmed to Daily Mail: “We're always excited to bring back customer favourites in our seasonal ranges and the Choceur Delightful Chocolate Waves are an absolute must-have this Christmas.”
The product was last available in-store in November 2024, with an Aldi Australia Facebook post at the time confirming the “crunchy” and “sweet” delight was available for a limited time only “until Christmas.”
A Victorian woman named Donatella was among the first to spot the return of Choceur Waves in-store when she visited her local Aldi store on October 27. She captioned a TikTok post shared on her @dj.wlsjourney account: “ALERT! I actually found the discontinued Aldi chocolate Pringles.” Donatella added that she was genuinely stunned to see that “they're back,” adding a happy-crying emoji alongside her post.
