Enforcement Actions Against Unlicensed Factories
The Sepang Municipal Council (MPSepang) has announced that it will start taking enforcement actions against 58 unlicensed factories located in the Meranti Utama Industrial Park in Puchong, Selangor. This decision comes after a period of grace provided to these businesses following an inventory exercise conducted earlier this year.
Muhamad Shah Osmin, the deputy president of MPSepang, stated that the factories were given an opportunity to apply for business licenses. However, he mentioned that this grace period has now expired. The council will begin issuing notices to compel compliance and licensing.
According to Muhamad Shah, the purpose of these licenses is not only to generate revenue for the council but also to regulate the operations of the factories. He emphasized the importance of ensuring that all factories meet the requirements set by relevant agencies such as the Fire and Rescue Department, the Environment Department, and utility providers.
Increased Vehicle Towing Operations
In addition to the enforcement actions against unlicensed factories, Muhamad Shah highlighted that MPSepang has increased its vehicle towing operations. These operations targeted vehicles that obstructed traffic or posed safety risks, and they were carried out between January and August this year.
A total of 1,990 vehicles were towed during this period. This included 1,797 vehicles in Cyberjaya, 147 in Bandar Baru Salak Tinggi, and 46 in Dengkil. The council collected RM437,800 in towing fees and RM159,200 in related fines, bringing the total amount to RM597,000.
Muhamad Shah noted that there were 2,086 towing cases recorded in 2024. The opening of the local council’s third vehicle depot in Dengkil earlier this year has strengthened enforcement efforts. The other depots are located in Cyberjaya and Bandar Baru Salak Tinggi.
Each depot can accommodate between 15 and 20 vehicles, but the operations remain efficient due to the high turnover rate, according to Muhamad Shah. This increase in efficiency has allowed the council to handle a larger number of towing cases effectively.
