A Celebration of Service and Unity
Penang continues to flourish because its people are always ready to serve the community with humility and compassion, according to Deputy Chief Minister II Jagdeep Singh Deo. His remarks were made during the fellowship night of the Council of Datuks Penang (MDDNPP), where he praised the state’s honorific title holders for their dedication and contributions.
Jagdeep highlighted that this event recognizes the efforts of hundreds of individuals who have played a significant role in the state's progress and well-being. He emphasized that Penang is in good hands due to the readiness of its people to serve the community.
He also mentioned that the government will continue to support upcoming community projects while maintaining a humble approach, as taught by his late father, Karpal Singh.
Representing the Chief Minister, Jagdeep attended the dinner alongside state executive councillors Daniel Gooi and Fahmi Zainol. He further commended MDDNPP for fostering unity among the state’s honorific title holders and for serving as a platform that encourages leadership and social responsibility aligned with the Penang2030 vision of a caring and inclusive society.
The Role of Honorific Title Holders
MDDNPP president Datuk Seri Choot Ewe Seng explained that the title "Datuk" carries a profound duty to lead with integrity, humility, and compassion. He reminded members that the title serves as a reminder to use their influence to inspire positive change and give back to society.
Choot stated that the council has consistently upheld its mission of promoting fellowship, social responsibility, and community service since its inception. He described the association as a bridge for collaboration and mutual support among leaders who share a common vision of contributing to society.
He encouraged new members to actively participate in the council’s activities, such as cultural and social events and charitable initiatives. This involvement, he said, would help strengthen ties and make meaningful contributions to the community.
Through participation, members can form valuable friendships, gain experience, and help uphold the council’s noble objectives. Choot also expressed gratitude to long-serving members whose loyalty and commitment have been crucial to the council’s growth and success.
Evolving for the Future
Choot emphasized that the council must continue to evolve and take an active role in addressing social challenges while supporting welfare and development programs. He noted that although we live in an era of rapid change, it is also a time of opportunity to connect, cooperate, and contribute meaningfully.
The fellowship night symbolized unity and friendship among the honorific title holders. Choot said that the event served as a reminder of the strength found in solidarity and the positive impact that can be achieved when people stand together with one heart and purpose.
He also thanked the organizing chairman, Datuk Finn Choong, and his committee for creating a memorable evening that celebrated camaraderie and service. The event included RM10,000 contributions to charities, with representatives from various organizations present, including Pusat Harian Harapan Bakti, Persatuan Syukur Penyayang Pulau Pinang, and Penang Women’s Protection Society.
