Singapore and Malaysia Suspects Targeted in International Scam Operation
Singapore authorities have issued arrest warrants for 27 Singaporeans and seven Malaysians, who are believed to be part of a scam ring operating from Cambodia. The Singapore Police Force (SPF) confirmed this development, highlighting the ongoing efforts to track down individuals involved in criminal activities that affect Singapore.
The 34 suspects are currently outside of Singapore and are linked to 15 individuals who were charged last month for their involvement with the same syndicate. The SPF emphasized its commitment to pursuing criminals, regardless of where they operate, and stated that it will collaborate with foreign law enforcement agencies to ensure justice is served.
This operation began with a joint effort between the SPF and Cambodian police on September 9. The group, allegedly based in a scam compound in Phnom Penh, was accused of impersonating government officials to defraud victims in Singapore. According to investigators, the scam has led to 438 reported cases, resulting in losses of at least S$41 million (RM132.7 million).
Following the September operation, 15 suspects — including 12 Singaporeans, two Malaysians, and one Filipino — were arrested in Singapore and charged on September 11 and 12 for their involvement in an organized criminal group. Further investigations, supported by evidence from Cambodia, uncovered an additional 34 suspects.
