Lufthansa Secures Top Honors at World Travel Awards 2025
German airline Lufthansa has once again been recognized as the best airline in Europe, marking its second consecutive win at the World Travel Awards 2025. This prestigious event, often referred to as the “Oscars of tourism,” took place in Sardinia, Italy, and celebrated outstanding achievements across the global travel and tourism industry.
Lufthansa outperformed other leading European airlines, including KLM Royal Dutch and British Airways, to claim the title of “Europe’s Leading Airline.” The airline has a long history of success, having won this award 13 times since the inception of the World Travel Awards in 1993. It maintained an impressive winning streak from 2011 to 2016, showcasing its consistent excellence in service and operations.
In addition to the main award, Lufthansa also received accolades for being the best economy class airline and the best airline brand. With flights to over 200 destinations worldwide, Lufthansa is Europe’s second-largest airline in terms of passenger volume, with Ryanair holding the top position.
Another airline under the Lufthansa Group, Swiss International Air Lines, was honored for “Europe’s Leading First Class” and “Europe’s Leading Business Class.” The Lufthansa Group encompasses several other carriers, including Brussels Airlines, Discover Airlines, Eurowings, Edelweiss Air, Air Dolomiti, and Austrian Airlines, each contributing to the group's strong presence in the aviation sector.
Recognition of Excellence in Travel
The World Travel Awards celebrate excellence across various sectors of the travel and tourism industry, including tour operators, hotels, destinations, and cruise lines. The awards are based on criteria such as punctuality, consistency, and the quality of service provided by the nominees.
Winners are selected through a dual voting system that involves both qualified travel consumers and industry professionals. While public votes are considered, the opinions of travel executives and buyers carry more weight, ensuring that the awards reflect industry standards and expertise.
